What is WinFront?
WinFront is a program that replaces your current MS-Windows (95/98/ME/NT/2000) startup screen with another image.
It operates fully automatic: Just start the program and your startup screen will immediately be replaced.
(On Windows NT or Windows 2000 machines, you may need to be logged in as administrator. I am not sure about this; I run Windows 98 at home. Please tell me your experiences.)

How do I select a new startup screen image?
This depends a bit on the browser you are using.

For MS Internet Explorer:

• Click on the image you want to use.
  A 'File Download' dialog box appears.
• Select 'Run this program from its current location' and press 'Ok'. (If you don't want this, save the file and continue with step 2 of the Netscape Navigator description)
  If you get some window asking whether you want to install and run some logo????.exe file, answer 'YES'.
  After a while, a window will appear, containing some text.
  It should end with 'FINISHED SUCCESSFULLY' - if not, please mail me the text!
  
• Press ENTER to close the window.

For Netscape Navigator:

• Click on the image you want to use.
  A 'Save As...' dialog box appears.
• Save the file somewhere.
• Click on the 'Start' button.
• Select 'Run...'.
• Fill in the name of the file that you saved in the 2nd step. (You may search using 'Browse...').
• Click on 'Ok' or press ENTER.
  A window will appear, containing some text.
  It should end with 'FINISHED SUCCESSFULLY' - if not, please mail me the text!
• Press ENTER to close the window.

For other browsers:
Other browsers, like Opera and Lynx, work in a similar way.

If something goes wrong, just drop me an email (use the link at the bottom) or write something in my guestbook.
Always mention which Windows version you use (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, ...)

How do I restore my old startup image?
Run this program (4KB).
This works exactly the same as setting a new startup image. See the description for your browser above.

Possible problems and solutions
I have not received any questions or problem reports yet (July 17, 2000).
